No mafia don killed in encounter, rape cases on the rise: reports

Mumbai, Apr 25 (UNI) Not a single member owing allegiance to the Mumbai-based notorious mafia troika of Dawood, Rajan and Gawli has been killed in any encounter in the last one year, crime figures released by Mumbai police today said.

According to Mumbai Commissioner of Police, the report has been prepared in the period between April 1, 2006 to March 31, 2007.

In 2000, 39 henchmen of Dawood, 19 members of Rajan and another five associates of Gawli were killed in various shoot-outs in the city.

However, the number of rapes in the city has gone up to 270, compared to last year's figure of 260.

Shockingly, eight of these rapes were committed on young girls during the same period.
