Myanmar army delegation meets Indian counterpart
Kolkata, Apr 25 (UNI) An 18-member Myanmar army delegation has held a meeting with their Indian counterparts at the Eastern Command Headquarters over various issues including cross border insurgency and arms smuggling.
Describing it as a liason meeting, army sources said the Myanmarese delegation, which was on a five-day visit, had been in Rangapahar, Headquarters of the three corps before moving to the Eastern Command Headquarters.
The meeting was important in the wake of the border, shared by both the countries along Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh and the deep jungles in Myanmar, used by the underground outfits from India as their hideout.
While the Myanmerese army delegation was led by Brigadier General Tin Maung Ohn, Lt Gen K S Shivakumar headed the Indian team that took part in the discussions, the sources said.
The liaison meetings are held twice a year to hold discussions on issues of mutual interest. The next meeting between the two sides will be held in Myanmar.
