Govt to offer 'Feed In Tariff' for wind and solar energy

New Delhi, Apr 25 (UNI) The government today said it will set up a 'Feed In Tariff' system for solar and wind energy to supply power across the country, a move that would increase the amount of renewable energy generation.

This Renewable Feed In Tariff System (RFITS), popular in Germany and Australia, will ensure a fair rate of return for the investors.

RFITS is a policy whereby the government legally guarantees the renewable energy producers to have access to the power grid at a guaranteed price.

''My ministry is evolving the feed in tariff system for wind and solar as well as other non-conventional energy and will shortly forward it to the power regulatory authorities for their endorsement,'' Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, V Subramanium said at the 2nd South Asia Renewable Energy Conference here.

He said in Germany and Australia the solar and wind energy generator feed their power generation to government-owned grids to supply power to required destinations.
