Government planning to revive Jaipur Metals and Electricals Ltd.

Jaipur, Apr 25 (UNI) The Rajasthan Government has decided to consider viable offers from private bidders for revival of the state government undertaking-Jaipur Metals and Electricals Limited with private sector's participation.

The issue of the revival of the electricity meters manufacturing unit, which had been non- functional since 1998, figured at the meeting of the state cabinet which was held here this evening under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.

The cabinet has authorised Industries Minister Narpat Singh Rajvi to invite offers from more private bidders, evaluate the same and submit his report within a month.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rajendra Singh Rathore told reporters that a total of three private bidders had so far submitted their offers for revival of the unit.

The revival of this 'sick' unit. which presently has net deficit of Rs 60 crore, will ensure livelihood to over 900 employees.

The cabinet has also decided to amend the Rajasthan Monuments and Places of Archeological Importance Act 1961 which makes provisions to ensure more effective preservation of such monuments.

''The cabinet wants to make punitive provisions of imprisonment up to 3 years and cash penalty up to Rs one lakh for those who will be responsible for damage to monuments or places of heritage,'' Mr Rathore said.
