Food poisoning leaves 56 people ill in HP

Dharamshala, Apr 25 (UNI) At least 56 people, including women and children. were left ill in two separate suspected cases of food poisoning in Kangra and Chamba districts of Himachal Pradesh last night, police and health sources today said.

In the first case of food poisoning, 36 people, including women and children, fell ill after eating at a langar in Dehrian village of Kangra district.

The sources said people started vomiting followed by loose motions and complained of severe abdominal pain soon after eating the food and were taken to a nearby primary health centre (PHC).

Five seriously ill have been referred to Kangra Hospital where the doctors described them out of danger, the sources said.

In another case of food poisoning, 20 girl students in a school hostel fell ill in Chilli village of Chamba district after eating their dinner.

The girl students were taken to a nearby government hospital and were reported to be out of danger.

Kangra Chief Medical Officer Jaswant Singh Chandel, confirming the case of food poison in the district, said the a detailed report was being prepared after collecting samples of food served in the langer in the district.
