Ex TN BJP chief, 22 others acquitted in assault case
Coimbatore, Apr 25 (UNI) A Fast Track Court here today acquitted all the 23 accused, including Former BJP Tamil Nadu President C P Radhakrishnan, in an assault case for lack of evidence.
The accused were chargesheeted for attacking and preventing a police videographer and a sub-inspector from discharging their duties on June 20, 2000.
Judge G Ramasamy acquitted them for want of evidence in the case.
The accused belonging to the BJP and Hindu Munnani allegedly attacked police videographer Pankaj Kumar and Sub-Inspector Lingaraj while they were recording the funeral procession of RSS worker Somasundaram.
According to prosecution, Somasundaran was taken to police station for enquiry on June 19, 2000 in connection with a case and on June 20, 2000, he allegedly committed suicide at his house.
Irritated BJP activists allegedly attacked the videographer recording the funeral procession and the SI who came to his rescue.
Following the incident, police filed case against 23 BJP and Hindu activists, including former BJP Tamil Nadu President C P Radhakrishnan.
