Dr Babu Cherian gets Suvarna Keralam award

Kottayam, Apr 25 (UNI) Dr Babu Cherian (Kottayam) has been selected for the Suvarna Keralam award instituted by the Mahatma Gandhi University for the best research thesis in Malayalam language.

Announcing the award in a news conference here today, University Vice-Chancellor Jancy James said the award was instituted to improve the quality of Malayalam thesis. The award was instituted as part of the golden jubilee of the formation of Kerala state, Dr Jancy added.

Award committee Chairperson M Leelavathy said the research methodology, scientific way of presentation and quality of the work were taken into account for the selection.

Dr Babu's thesis 'Malayala Bhashakkum Sahithyathinum Benjamin Bailiyude rpt Bailiyude Sambhavanakal' (Benjamin Baili's rpt Baili's contributions to the Malayalam language and literature) secured him the award.

The award, consisting of a cash prize of Rs 10,001 and citation, would be presented at a special function to be held at the University campus later, she said.
