Coaches with fire fighting system for Samjhauta Express
Jagadhri, Apr 25 (UNI) Three rail coaches, the first to have been equipped with advanced fire fighting system in the country, will be attached to the Samjhauta Express.
The coaches, which were fitted with the fire fighting system at the Jagadhri Rail Factory, were sent off to Delhi here today by Chief Mechanical Engineer (Northern Railway) R K Upadhyay.
The decision about equipping rail coaches on various trains in the country was taken following the Samjhauta Express blasts in which over 65 passengers were burnt to death.
Railway sources said Rs one lakh per coach had been spent for equipping them with fire fighting system that contains 200 litre water tank with two release points--one in the corridor and another near the toilet.
Acting with brake pressure, this fire fighting system--enclosed in a glass case--could throw water up to 15 metres, the said.
