BJP demands CBI probe into labourer's mysterious death

Port Blair, Apr 25 (UNI) The BJP today demanded a CBI probe into the alleged murder of a labourer in Middle Andaman last week.

Suprien Barla, who hails from Kadamtala village in the region, was arrested on April 18 on the charges of eve-teasing.

According to police, Barla escaped from police custody the same evening and committed suicide inside his house by hanging himself.

But the BJP's Andaman unit described it as custodial death.

''We demand re-post mortem of the body and suspension of those police officials responsible for the death,'' party unit's president Vishal Jolly told UNI.

However, senior police officials have refused to comment anything in this regard to the media.

'' I can only say the situation is normal in Kadamtala village,'' Superintendent of Police Ashok Chand said.

The BJP workers staged demonstration in various parts of Kadamtala resulting in the arrest of 17 villagers, who were sent to judicial custody.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leaders, along with other political party members, have reached the remote village to take stock of the situation.
