Bahrain bans bachelors from staying in residential areas

Dubai, Apr 25 (UNI) Expatriate bachelors from India and other countries are being shunned from residential neighbourhoods with Bahrain becoming the latest country to mull a total ban on their stay in areas considered suitable for families only.

These people constitute the largest number of overseas workers in Gulf countries.

The kingdom's parliament approved the law at its weekly session yesterday, which also contemplated a proposal to ban labour camps from residential areas and relocating existing ones to industrial areas.

However, some members of Bahrain Parliament expressed scepticism over such a ban as it would affect a source of rental income to many and might cause more harm than good. But the general opinion was to shift labour camps away from residential areas.

It was alleged that bachelors use their houses to make alchohol, run prostitute rings or to rape children and housemaids.
