Asom govt assures safe release of Dr Ram:FCI CMD

Guwahati, Apr 25 (UNI) Food Corporation of India(North East) Chairman cum Managing Director Alok Sinha today said FCI executive director P C Ram will be soon rescued from the abductor's captivity.

Dr Ram (54) is suspected to have been abducted by the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) militants on April 17 from Asom's Ulubari area.

'' Asom government and police have assured us that every needful is being done to secure safe release of Dr Ram. We have full faith in government,'' Mr Sinha said while talking to newsmen here.

Mr Sinha who met Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, the chief secretary and senior police officials here yesterday said the government had assured to provide 'proper security cover' to FCI officials working in the state.

He also ruled out any panic among the FCI staff in the region over abduction and denied to have received any request for transfer from the employees in the region.

'' The abduction as well as continuing militancy in the NE region has in no way affected the FCI operations in the region,''Mr Sinha said adding that the food supply to the region was not hampered.

Mr Sinha said he was in constant touch with the Centre and Dr Ram's family to gather latest informations about him.

However, he said Dr Ram's family members had not disclosed to him about receiving any ransom demand from abductors.

He also appealed the abductors to release Dr Ram as the FCI had no 'fight' with them.
