Madhesis threatens economic blockade in Nepal

Patna, Apr 24: The Madhesis(Indian origin of Nepali citizen) today threatened to set up an economic blockade in Nepal in case their problems were not solved.

Chairman of the Madhesi Agitation Forum in Nepal and prominent leader of the Madehsis Upendra Yadav today told UNI here that even after being a Nepali citizen, the Madhesis who are in large number in the southern part of the Nepal, adjoining Bihar have no role in the Nepali constitution.

He said despite the fact that the Madhesis had a sizeable population in Nepal, their language and culture had not been recognised in the Nepali constitution.

Mr Yadav said that the Madhesis were forced to adopt this path of agitation against the 'apathetic' attitude of the Nepal government for getting a decent place in the society.

He said if the government failed to resolve their issues through constructive negotiations, the Madhesis would launch an economic blockade in Nepal soon.

He said that on the basis of the Madhesi population, they should get due representation in the governance and in the local bodies. He claimed that the 72-hour-bandh call in Nepal, which ended yesterday, had a wide impact in the country and added that the Nepali maoists were against the Madhesis and were in favour of a single party dictatorship rule.

To curb the agitation, the Maoists had targetted sveral Mahdhesis who were also being exploited by those in power in Nepal.

Madhesis were being treated as second-grade citizens as only 200 Madhesis were incorporated in the Nepali army. He said the condition of the Mahesis was similar to that of the Tamils in Sri Lanka.
