HC denies BJP MP Katara anticipatory bail
New Delhi, Apr 24: The Delhi High Court dismissed the petition ofShardaben seeking anticipatory bail to her husband and arrestedBhartiya Janata Party MP Babubhai Katara today.
Justice Rekha Khetrapal observed that the petition ought to havebeen first moved to an appropriate court hearing the case. "You cannotbypass the trial court like this," the judge observed while decliningany relief to Shardaben and her three children, a daughter and twosons.
"It is a big human trafficking racket. All persons involved inthis case are required to be interrogated," the court said whenShardaben took the plea that being an illiterate woman she had nothingto do with trafficking.
"Several passports, including those of Shardabens children, havebeen recovered. They were all used for human trafficking. It is aserious offence," the court observed.
It may be added here that BJP MP Babubhai Katara was arrested froma plane ready to take off last week trying to smuggle out a woman and ateenage boy to Toronto.
His arrest opened up a can of worms, lifting the lid off a massivehuman trafficking racket. His aides told the police that three sittingMembers of Parliament had also a role to play. The Delhi police haseven called the MPs for an interrogation.
A raid on Katara's house in Gujarat has yielded many passports, sccording to the police investigating the extent of his role.
