Patna, Apr 24: The All India Pasmanda Muslim Maha (AIPMM) has cautioned the Muslim community not to be misled by Union Minister A R Antulay's statement regarding Sachar Committee.

Mr Antulay had earlier stated that the Sachar Committee's recommendation for reservation to minorities in the field of education and government services would not serve any purpose.

In a statement issued here today, AIPMM president and Rajya Sabha member Ali Anwar condemned the Union Minister's statement, in which he had tried to 'underplay' the importance of reservation for minorities.

'' Such statements by a union minister has smacked of the sinister design of the Centre to put the committee in cold storage,'' Mr Anwar said.

He said, the underprivileged section among the minorities were leading a pathetic life and need reservation to enable them to come to the maistream.

Alleging that the upper strata of the minorities were dominating in politics, government services and other sectors while the downtrodden had no representation, Mr Anwar demanded that they should be declared as scheduled caste, as recommended by the Sachar Committee.
