Tripura: Govt initiates project for Jhumias
Agartala, Apr 23: Tripura government will spend Rs 1.5 crore to help the Jhumias till their crop is harvested.
The government has sanctioned Rs 1,52,68,000 to be channelised through the tribal department to purchase bamboo, agarbatti sticks, Arjun flower and other bamboo made products from Jhumias who live in the interiors of Tripura.
All the purchases would be through the Tripura apex marketing cooperative to help the tribal Jhumias till their cultivated crops reach home from Jhum fields.
During the 2006-07 financial year, Rs 1,39, 07000 were spent to provide financial help to the tribal Jhumias.
A high-level meeting, chaired by Tribal Welfare Minister Jitendra Chowdhury, urged for the implementation of this year's project.
