UK: Sheikh Hasina banned to travel to Dhaka

London, Apr 23: Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was banned to travel from London to Dhaka, but not by the UK government.

As enquired by UNI, it was revealed that the Foreign Office had nothing to do with her being banned from travelling to Dhaka from the UK.

The British Foreign Office spokeswoman said, ''We are not aware of Sheikh Hasina being banned from travelling. It would not have been the UK Government which would have banned her, because she is a Bangladeshi national. We would not be able to prevent her from travelling back to her country.'' The proviso is that all her travel documents should be in order. The Government would ban any passenger from travelling if their travel documents are not in order.

But British Airways said, ''We received a written notification from the Civil Aviation Authority in Bangladesh which was also sent to all other airlines which operate to Dhaka that a passenger has been banned from entering Bangladesh. As a result we are unable to accept the passenger for travel.'' Hasina's whereabouts in London was not immediately known but it was said she has a sister living here and could be staying with her.
