Allahabad, Apr 22 (UNI) The CPI(M) today said its sole aim was to form a secular government in Uttar Pradesh after the ongoing assembly polls.

Deputy leader in Lok Sabha and senior CPI(M) leader Mohd Saleem today asserted ''Except the BJP, all parties in UP claim to be secular but to which extent they are is a matter of consideration.

However, Samajwadi Party (SP) is the most secular party among them.'' ''All secular parties must unite and work to defeat the communal forces. I will extend my full support in the formation of a secular government in the state,'' he said.

When asked about the third alternative, Mr Saleem said the gathering of political leaders and seat adjustment at the time of election was not a solution. The third alternative should be formed on the basis of political issues.

Mr Saleem further observed that there was better coordination and adjustment among the left parties in other states.

''We did not give recognition to the present naxalite movement as they have no political ideology. It is unfortunate that some political parties provide 'shelter' to naxalites for their narrow political gains,'' he added.

The union government should deal with the naxalite menace on national level with the help of state government. Steps including developmental schemes, distribution of surplus land and formation of exploitation less society were must. There must be effective check specially in areas close to the sea to check the smuggling of arms into the country, he added.
