Prof Sumit Sarkar admitted to Apollo hospital

New Delhi, Apr 22: Renowned Leftist historian Prof Sumit Sarkar was today admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital here with an acute neurological problem.

Prof Sarkar had returned the prestigious Rabindra Nath Puraskar award of the West Bengal Government in the wake of the controversial Nandigram episode as he was working for the welfare of the affected families of the area.

According to hospital sources, Prof Sarkar has been shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is under the care of Neuro-surgeon Dr A K Banerjee.

Prof Sarkar fell in his house and was rushed to the hospital.

His wife Dr Kanika Sarkar had also returned the Rabindra Nath Puraskar award to the West Bengal Government citing same grounds.
