'More electoral reforms required to end evils'

Lucknow, Apr 22: The BJP today said that more electoral reforms, including state funding of the elections, are required to end the prevailing evils in the political system after the disclosure of the emigration racket by the MPs.

''BJP won't hesitate to take stringent action against the MPs once their crime is proved but something has to be done for permanent cleaning of the system'', said BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi here.

Addressing a press conference, Mr Naqvi said the party has taken the issue of emigration racket very seriously and the matter related to Rajasthan MP Ramswarup Koli is being probed.

''BJP will not wait for a minute to punish the MP once his crime is proved'', he said, adding the MP had claimed that he had not used his passport in the last three years.

Talking about the BJP's effort to clean the political system, Mr Naqvi said during the NDA regime, several electoral reforms were made.'' There is a need for elections under state funding to prevent the financial crimes undertaken by the peoples' representatives'', he added.
