Vijayawada, Apr 22 (UNI) The city police today arrested three former Defence staff on charges of cheating unemployed youth by promising them jobs in Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Speaking to the press here this evening, City Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) S Ramachandramurthy said T Tirumala Rao, Gopirama and Anand Kumar started a coaching centre at Gannavaram near here.

The trio promised jobs in Defence establishments to as many as 30 students on payment of Rs one lakh, half of which had to be paid upfront and the balance on receipt of appointment orders.

While Tirumala Rao was a retired-subedar, Gopirama and Anand Kumar had been sacked from the CRPF for misconduct.

Mr Murthy said the accused used to prepare fake appointment orders by forging signatures of officials. They used to keep the 'orignial orders' and send the 'duplicates' to the aspirants.

When one of the students, Ch Ravindrababu of Vijayawada, approached Tirumala Rao, he pressed Babu to pay the balance to obtain original appointment order.

However, the student who suspected foul play referred the appointment order to the CPRF Headquarters in New Delhi which said it was a fake.

Ravindrababu then approached the police who arrested the trio.

They would be produced before a local court tomorrow.
