Youths hold candle-light demonstration over SEZ
New Delhi, Apr 21 (UNI) A group of young people held candle-light demonstration at Jantar Mantar here today, condemning the Nandigram killings over SEZ (Special Economic Zone).
The number of agitating youths was estimated to be about little more than hundred.
Addressing the motley crowd, National Association for People's Movement (NAPM) member Rajendra Ravi exhorted the youth to usher the civilised society into an India where all were truly equal.
The students demanded review of the SEZ policy. They also demanded that there should be no forceable acquisition of land.
In fact, whereever forceable acquisition had taken place, the land should be immediately returned to the farmers.
Meanwhile, Prof Tanika Sarkar of JNU called upon the students to keep the country united by thwarting attempts of 'divisive' forces.
The Association for India Development, Students for Bhopal and the Students for Delhi had jointly called for the demonstration.
Swami Agnivesh and social activist Medha Patkar also joined the protest.
