Kochi, Apr 21 (UNI) Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Prakash Karat today said the Congress-led UPA Government in the Centre had lost credibility as people were now aware of its shortcomings.

Addressing a gathering at the inauguration of the jubilee celebrations of Kerala's first Communist government and the first anniversary of Former State Minister T K Ramakrishnan, Mr Karat said the UPA Government had failed in its promises and the Congress would be 'punished' for its indifferent performance.

'' The Left parties were supporting the UPA Government to keep BJP out of power and that doesn't mean that we vouch for all the policies of the Central Government,'' Mr Karat added.

The Congress would be routed in the Uttar Pradesh elections for their 'anti-people' policies at the Centre.

Stressing the importance of an independent judiciary, Mr Karat said a National Judiciary Commission should be constituted to usher in reforms in the legal system.

He said a committee should also be constituted to streamline the appointment of judges.

Regarding the Smart City Project in Kochi, Mr Karat said Left Democratic Front's (LDF) stand on the project was people-friendly compared to the stand taken by the previous Congress-led United Democratic Front Government.
