Two security men killed in firing

Guwahati, Apr 21 (UNI) Two policemen were killed during an encounter with suspected ULFA militants in Golaghat district of upper Asom last night.

The encounter took place when the state police confronted the militants while conducting a raid on a house of one Pran Thengal at Choudangpathar in Garjan Nabajyoti Village under Merapani police station as a possible hideout for the banned outfit.

The two security men, identified as Gagan Barman and Atul Changmai, were killed on the spot in an exchange of fire.

While the militants fled in the cover of darkness, police arrested Pran, his wife and four children, including two daughters and a gun was recovered from his possession.

A high-level team of officials, including the DIG, has rushed to take stock of the situation.
