Talati gets 2 years for demanding bribe
Vadodara, Apr 21 (UNI) A local court today sentenced a talati of Kapuri gram panchayat to two years imprisonment for accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 in the 1996 property transfer case.
The court held Mahendra Shrimali guilty of accepting Rs 3,000 as bribe and sentenced him to imprisonment.
In December 1996, Shrimali had demanded Rs 5,000 from Karsanbhai Purshottambhai Parmar for transferring the ancestral property to his brothers. However, he later settled for Rs 3,000 for registering the names of the new owners in panchayat land records.
Mr Parmar then approached the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) officials, who laid a trap and apprehended Shrimali.
In the first information report (FIR), Mr Parmar had also named mamlatdar Shailesh Baria, but the court acquitted him.
