OR at Nellore, Kadapa Zones improve to 70 % in 2006-07

Tirupati, Apr 21 (UNI) The Occupancy Rate (OR) at Nellore and Kadapa Zones, consisting of Chittoor, Prakasam, Nellore, Kurnool, Kadapa and Anantapur districts have been improved to 70 per cent for the year 2006-07, and posted a profit of Rs 11.5 crore for the financial year, according to Nellore and Kadapa Zones APSRTC Executive Director U Sudhakara Rao said here today.

The APSRTC services gained appreciation among the commuters and the market share lost in the past was in the process of being regained slowly and steadily, particularly in the rural area services Palle Velugu, he said.

As many as 365 new buses had been replaced in the two zones in addition to 42 buses for augmenting services till March 2007.

Mr Rao said steps had been taken and special attention was paid for the passenger amenities in all the bus stations, particularly, Srihari, Sreenivasa and Edukondalu stations and sanctioned Rs 60 lakh by the VC and MD for upgradation of passenger amenities in Tirupati.

Special attention was also given for better passenger amenities in the major bus stations in Kadapa, Kurnool, Anantapur, Prakasam and Nellore Regions, in tune with the changing commuters' needs. The Corporation had also introduced new types and models of buses - Volvo, Meghadoot, Pallevelugu, he said.

The need for undisturbed attention on operations and mechanical engineering was increased. The need for rationalization of schedules, curbing inter depot competition and integrated comprehensive approach in planning and implementing the operations at the regional level and thrust for monitoring the implementation of several marketing schemes at district level had been increased, he explained.

In tune with the Corporation decision, the six regions in two zones were now posted by Deputy Chief Traffic Managers and Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineers with effect from April 15. In Chittoor two Deputy Chief Traffic Managers and two Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineers were posted, one set each at Tirupati and Chittoor for effective control, he added.
