High tension powerline kills 4 in Mathura

Mathura, Apr 21 (UNI) Four persons were burnt alive and another sustained serious burns after a high tension power line fell on a 'jugad' carrying them in Surir area of the district today.

Police said the mishap took place in Parsauti Gadi, when the victims, all members of a marriage band party, were on their way to a matrimony function on the 'jugad.' 'Jugad' is an unauthorised, improvised vehicle made out of wodden planks and disel generator. Such vehicles are found in abundance in western Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

The injured was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

The deceased were identified as Rehman, Hari Om, Ikram and Yaseen.

Following the implementation of model code of conduct, the district administration has sought permission of the Election Commission (EC) regarding compensation to family members of the deceased.
