Eight children drowned in two mishaps in Karnataka
Bangalore, Apr 21 (UNI) Eight children, including six girls in the age group of nine to 12 years, were drowned in two different mishaps in Karnataka today.
Police said in the first incident reported from Jodugatte village in Magadi taluk of Bangalore rural district, four girls and a boy were drowned in a small pond meant to cater water to cattle. When the boy slipped and fell into the eight-feet deep the four girls, all close relatives, rushed to save him but were also drowned one by one.
In the other incident reported from Bijapur district, three cowherds aged between ten and 11 years were drowned when they were caught in the slush of a pond in which they had let their buffalo to bath. While the buffalo walked ashore, the children were caught in the slush. Passersby brought them out in unconscious condition and they died while being shifted to hospital, police said.
