EC shifts Chandauli DM in UP

Lucknow, Apr 21 (UNI) The Election Commission (EC) today ordered the removal of Chandauli District Magistrate C R Tripathi.

The office of the state chief electotral officer (CEO) said here that in place of Tripathi, Shahjahanpur district magistrate Amit Kumar Ghosh has been entrusted with the responsibility to hold free and fair elections in Chandauli.

While no official reasons were given out behind the ouster of Tripathi, it is believed that EC had received complaints of partisan approach against the officer.

Ghosh has been asked to hold free and fair elections at Chandauli, which goes to poll during phase VI of Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections on May 3. He would return to Shahjahanpur after the election.

Election process has already been completed in Shahjahanpur. A ''suitable'' replacement will be made in place of Tripathi before counting takes place on all 403 seats on May 11.
