CRPF jawan shot at by colleague dies in Kashmir

Srinagar Apr 21 (UNI) A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan, who was shot at and wounded by his colleague in a camp in south Kashmir on Monday last, died in hospital today.

With the death of headconstable Ajit Kumar, the toll in the firing incident has risen to two.

A CRPF head constable Jaswant Singh of 183 battalion shot at and critically wounded head constable Ajit Singh and Ran Singh before he shot himself dead with his service weapon.

The other injured jawans were admitted to hospital, he said.

The incidents of security force personnel committing suicide or firing at their colleagues were on the rise in the Kashmir valley, despite the introduction of 'Yoga and Art of living' to help them relieve stress.

Four security personnel, including a jawan of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), have committed suicide in the valley during the past three weeks.

Official sources said more than 20 security personnel were killed during the past six months in similar incidents in the Kashmir valley.

At least 14 security personnel, including some officers, were also killed by their colleagues in the Valley during the same period. On March 20, an army jawan shot dead his colleague in an army camp in north Kashmir.

A soldier was recently handed down death penalty by a court martial for killing Lt Colonel Saket Sexana at Harwan camp.
