CPI demands Kalam's intervention on Babli issue
Rajahmundry, Apr 21 (UNI) Communist Party of India (CPI) Andhra Pradesh executive member K Subba Raju today demanded that President A P J Abdul Kalam should intervene in the Babli issue and stop the project.
Addressing newspersons here, Mr Raju said a committee should be formed with the representatives of both Andhra Pradesh and Maharastra as its members to evolve a consensus on the issue.
Referring to inflation and price hike of essential commodities, he said the Public Distribution System (PDS) should be strengthened to control the price rise.
The CPI would organise a state-wide agitation to protest against the price rise.
He demanded that the government should implement Koneru Ranga Rao committee recommendations on land reforms in toto in the state.
The CPI would take up acquisition and distribution of the land if the government fails to do so, he warned.
He demanded that the government should come out with a time bound programme on Godavari Delta modernisation.
Referring to the Kakinada SEZ, he said the CPI would oppose tooth and nail any move by the government to acquire farm land for the SEZ.
