Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Apr 21 (UNI) Independent corporator from Mayurnagar ward attempted to commit suicide by allegedly dousing himself with kerosene after his demand for supply of water to the residents of his ward remained unheeded by the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).

In the general body meeting of the civic body held yesterday, Sitaram Sule drew out a bottle containing kerosene and poured it on himself. However, the alert security officers rushed and snatched the bottle from him, police said here today.

The corporator had given a notice to the AMC and the Mayor, Dr Bhagwat Karad, threatening to commit self-immolation if the authorities failed to supply water in his ward.

An offence under section 309 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against Sule, after the AMC Security Office lodged a complaint last night, police added.

Meanwhile, Mr Karad has directed the civic administration to supply water to Mayurnagar ward within eight days, according to the AMC sources.

The AMC sources admitted that various localities in Mayurnagar were facing the problem for over 15 years.
