Chouhan for simultaneous Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections

Indore , Apr 21 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today called for a nationwide debate over holding Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections simultaneously.

Mr Chouhan, while addressing the two-day conference of former judges that got underway here, said frequent elections kept political parties busy with both ruling and opposition parties constantly blaming each other.

He pointed out that frequent elections and implementation of the Model Code of Conduct obstructed development work.

Mr Chouhan felt that determining the tenure of Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabhas was also a matter of debate.

The Chief Minister said political parties must get funds from the government for fighting elections. A provision must be made in the budget in this regard.

He stressed the need for changing laws dating back to the British era.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) K G Balakrishnan and former CJI R C Lahoti were also present.

The two-day meeting would discuss issues of environment, water management, media and justice.
