992 in fray for for phase VII poll in UP

Lucknow, Apr 21 (UNI) A total of 992 candidates remain in the fray for phase VII of election in Uttar Pradesh.

During scrutiny today, nominations of 43 candidates were rejected. Altogether 1,035 candidates had filed nomination papers for the the last phase of elections, where polling will be held for 59 seats on May 8.

In the sixth phase, where polling is slated for May 3, there are 790 candidates in the fray for 52 assembly seats.

In the fifth phase, a total of 863 candidates are in the fray for 58 seats where polling will be held on April 28 while for the fourth phase elections on April 23, there are 929 candidates in the contest.

In the third phase of polling held on April 18 to 57 seats, 861 candidates are in the fray where polling was around 50 per cent. In the second phase of polling held on April 13, altogether 881 candidates were in the fray for 58 seats and the polling was over 46 per cent.

In the first phase of polling on April 7, the fate of as many as 839 candidates was sealed, with over 46 per cent of voters exercising their right to franchise in 62 seats spread over 13 districts.
