Kolkata, Apr 20 (UNI) Denmark-based Wireless Innovation Platform Labs (WIP Labs), which would set up wireless and mobile communication hub in Rajarhat, today signed MoUs with Calcutta University and Bengal Engineering and Science University to collaborate in the field of research and development.

State IT Minister Debesh Das told UNI that through these MoUs, the two premier universities would collaborate in R&D.

A third MoU would be inked with Jadavpur University soon.

Around Rs 400 crore would be invested in this project by the Danish company within next three years.

The State government would invest Rs 15 crore and have equity participation in the project.

However, the stake was yet to be decided. The alliance with universities and research centres would also benefit the students as they would have the opportunity to work with international experts and gather expertise in the filed of wireless communications.

'' The state government would hand over 20-acre land to WIP Labs for the project in the Vedic Village hi-tech zone near Kolkata airport within two months, '' Mr Das said.

WIP Labs of Denmark was set up by two local companies -- Sabita Holding and Xfon Holding. It facilitates investment for R&D, outsourcing, consultancy and developing a pool of expertise globally in wireless technologies. Its vision is to become the premier knowledge bank for state-of-the-art and future wireless technologies.

WIP Labs has forged an alliance with a leading R&D Center --- Center for TeleInFrastruktur (CTIF), Aalborg University.
