Gangtok, Apr 20 (UNI) Two labourers were killed and three injured in a mudslide while working at a construction site of a private building at Singtam, East Sikkim, about 35 kms from here today.

Police said the incident occurred around 1530 hours. Ten labourers working at the site had recently finished cutting around 20 feet high wall.

Peppered by yesterday's rainfall the wall came hurling down on the labourers. While five managed to escape as they were a bit away from the site, Sanjay Tamang (23) and Devman Rai (32) were buried alive in the mudslide. Three others were injured.

After half an hour, Devman Rai's body was recovered with the help of the local people and Singtam police. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead. At around 5 pm, the body of Sanjay Tamang was found.

Meanwhile, Singtam police has said investigations will be carried out to find the exact cause of the accident.
