Sonia seeks change in people's mindset

Basti, Apr 20 (UNI) Seeking support for Congress, party president Sonia Gandhi today appealed the electorate to bring about a change in their mindset.

''The rule of Congress is imperative to usher in development in Uttar Pradesh,'' she asserted addressing an election meeting here.

Ms Gandhi alleged other political parties were coining ''attractive slogans'' to mislead the electorate and the people need to adopt a cautious approach towards them.

''People should change their mindset and choose Congress to be at the helm,'' she noted.

Assailing the successive non-Congress governments in UP, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson said only her party could bring about composite development in the state.

''The centre provided funds worth several crores of rupees, yet UP is lagging behind in the development race,'' she lamented.

Ms Gandhi reminded people that UP was faced with several hardships relating to power, water and infrastructure, while the farmers are sufferring due to the laggard industrial sector, especially sugar units.

''UP is characterised by unprincipled polity, where political parties were befooling the masses for their lust of power,'' she underlined, projecting Congress as the only saviour.
