Opposition leader's plea on railway line

Puducherry, Apr 20 (UNI) Leader of the opposition A M H Nazeem today urged the administration to take immediate steps to obtain the share of the union territory in the Karaikal-Nagore broadguage railway line.

Making a special mention during zero hour in the Assembly, Mr Nazeem pointed out that Chief Minister N Rangasamy while answering one of his questions had said that the Railway Ministry had not intimated the estimate of the project. After being informed, the administration would provide it.

Mr Nazeem also said Union Minister of State for Railways R Velu told newspersons yesterday at Thiruvarur that the total cost of the project was estimated at Rs 66 crore, of which the territorial adminstration would have to pay 50 per cent.

Mr Nazeem urged the administration to make the funds available so that the project could be taken up soon.

DMK member Siva urged the administration to introduce Tamil as medium of instruction upto 4th standard in Puducherry and Karaikal region, Malayalam in Mahe and Telugu in Yanam on the lines of Karnataka which had introduced Kannada as the medium of instruction upto 4th standard.

However, no reply was given to both the special mentions from the government side.
