One killed, two women among 5 injured in J-K

Srinagar, Apr 19 (UNI) One person was killed and five others, including two women, were injured while one Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militant was arrested in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

Meanwhile, an encounter ensued between militants and security forces during a search operation at Harwan at the city outskirts this evening. Details are awaited, a police spokesman said.

He said militants gate crashed into the house of one Shahzad Ahmad Dar at Dangerpora, Sopore, about 55 km from here late last night and fired upon him.

He succumbed to his injuries before he could be shifted to hospital.

Militants later managed to escape under the cover of darkness before security forces could reach there.

He said militants shot at and critically wounded one Nazir Ahmad Pir at Bulgam while one Shahnawaz Khan was injured in militant firing at Chandipora Sopore.

The injured have been hospitalised, he added.

He said police parties were rushed to different areas to nab the militants responsible for the shootouts.

The spokesman said Sopore police today arrested a Lashker-e-Toiba militant Hilal Ahmad Pir, a resident of Boniyar alongwith a pistol and some rounds of ammunition. Hilal wass allegedly involved in the shootout.

He said a group of four militants entered the house of one Lal Hussain at Gursal in Poonch district of Jammu region last night and resorted to indiscriminate firing on the inmates. Two persons Safarat Hussain and Rubina Kousar were injured. Later militants beat up Wazira Begum. The injured were admitted to hospital.

Militants later managed to escape, he said.
