MP High Court issues notice to MCI
Jabalpur, Apr 20 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notice to the Medical Council of India (MCI) on a petition challenging the granting of temporary approval to the proposed 150-seat private medical college in Indore which does not have the required infrastructure and staff.
Hearing a petition filed by Dilip Patel yesterday, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Anang Kumar Patnaik and Justice Krishna Kumar Lahoti issued the notice to the state's Medical Education department, Director (Medical Education), MCI and others and sought reply from them by May 7.
Petitioner's counsel A P Shroti told the court that the government had granted temporary approval to the Mayank Welfare Society to open Index Medical College, which is currently under construction.
Mr Shroti said, the Society had sought permission from the MCI for establishing a 150-seat medical college on the basis of the government's permission in this regard.
The petition stated that the college did not possess requisite infrastructure and human resources and was not eligible for starting a medical institution.
The petition requested the court to direct the government and the MCI not to provide essentiality certificate and permission certificate to the medical college.
