Kozhikode, Apr 20 (UNI) Backing Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi on his controversial remarks on Babri Masjid, Congress Working Committee member M Veerappa Moily today said the Country had to pay a heavy price as the then Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao failed to take an appropriate decision to contain the situation after the demolition of the Masjid in 1992.

''The country and the party had to pay a heavy price due to the indecisiveness of Rao,'' Mr Moily, who is in charge of party affairs in Kerala told reporters here.

Also supporting Mr Gandhi on his comments crediting the Nehru-Gandhi family with the partition of Pakistan in 1971, he claimed that many Bangladeshi leaders had sought support of Congress leaders to resolve the crisis after the partition.

In his recent election campaign in Uttar Pradesh, Mr Gandhi said had a member of Nehru-Gandhi family been at the helm, the situation could have been different after the demolition.

On the organisational polls in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, Mr Moily said it would be conducted as scheduled.
