Modi, VHP, BJP need to explain on Katara, CD cases

New Delhi, Apr 20 (UNI) Congress leader Kapil Sibal today demanded a public apology from the BJP on the issue of communal CDs circulated in Uttar Pradesh and maintained that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and the VHP stood exposed in the human trafficking case involving BJP Lok Sabha member, Babubhai Khimabhai Katara.

It was highly objectionable that the BJP had admitted its mistake before the Election Commission, but was making public speeches, stating that there was nothing wrong with the CDs, Mr Sibal told reporters.

Under similar circumstances in the Netherlands, the European Commission had sentenced a right wing leader, who had demanded the deportation of non-white workers, to two weeks' imprisonment and taken away his voting right, he said.

Pointing out that the Election Commission had the right to take action against not only the BJP but also its leaders, Mr Sibal wanted issue of EC notices to BJP leaders Kalyan Singh, Lalji Tandon and Kesrinath Tripathi.

On the issue of human trafficking, the Congress leader said Mr Katara was close to Mr Modi and was an office bearer of the VHP.

This was not the first time a BJP MP was involved in human trafficking. In 1998, Mr Ganga Ram Kholi, its MP from Bayana (Rajasthan) was arrested on the charge of sending out 17 people to the Netherlands on illegal travel documents, he said.
