Mirwaiz's hunger strike over wine shop continues
Srinagar, Apr 20 (UNI) The indefinite hunger strike by the Mirwaiz of south Kashmir, Qazi Ahmed Yasir, and his dozens of supporters in protest against the opening of a wine shop near Khanabal chowk in Anantnag district continued for the second day today.
Hundreds and thousands of angry residents took out a protest march after Friday prayers from Jamia Masjid to Lal Chowk in Anantnag, demanding immediate closure of the wine shop at Batengo near Khanabal on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway.
Angry protestors shouted slogans against the police and civil administration.
Qazi Yasir along with dozens of his supporters are sitting on an indefinite hunger strike since yesterday to press for their demands.
The protestors alleged that the wine shop had resulted in the increase in criminal activities in the area and had driven the youth to drinking and gambling.
The residents threatened to intensify their agitation if the district administration failed to order the closure of the shop.
