Militant, ULFA associates arrested

Guwahati, Apr 20 (UNI) Three associates of the outlawed ULFA and a militant were arrested in separate incidents in Asom today.

Karbi Anglong SP Anurag Tankha told UNI that acting on a tip-off, police arrested three supporters of the ULFA at Bokoliaghat in Karbi Anglong.

The arrested have been identified as Kamal Hazarika, Arup Hazarika and Biren Medhi.

Official sources said the arrested were planning to join the ULFA on the outfit's foundation day.

Last night, an ULFA militant, identified as Moina Moran, was arrested by security forces from Dhulijan village under Bordubi police station of Tinsukia district. Meanwhile, the police and the Army have intensified anti-insurgency operations in the Karbi Anglong district as well.

The stepped-up operations came in the wake of intelligence reports that ULFA militants had taken refuge in the district following the crackdown in the twin upper Asom districts of Tinsukia and Dibrugarh.
