Menon to visit US on May 1 for discussions
New Delhi, Apr 20 (UNI) United States Under-Secretary of State Nicholas Burns will visit India later this month to iron out any differences between the two countries on the Civilian Nuclear agreement, sources said here today.
The sources said Foreign Secretary Shiv Shanker Menon would also visit US from May 1-3.
The United States has expressed frustration at the slow pace of progress in India and has made no secret of its impatience saying it wanted the agreement to come into force before the end of the year.
The deal has to cross many obstacles before it can be fully implemented.
It has to be okayed by the 45-national Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) while India has to negotiate an India-specific Safeguards Agreement with the international atomic watchdog--the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
