Jethmalani meets breakaway Hurriyat leader

New Delhi, Apr 20: Former Minister and Chairman of the Kashmir Committee Ram Jethmalani last night met leader of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani and exchanged views with him on the current political and security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir.

Mr Jethmalani recently underwent kidney surgery at the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai Mr Jethmalani, who was accompanied by Convenor of the Committee Ashok Bhan, said that the Kashmir issue should be resolved peacefully and amicably. He said the time is ripe to take concrete measures for the resolution of the dispute.

He also wished speedy recovery for Mr Geelani, who was denied a visa by the United States to go abroad for treatment.

Mr Geelani is reported to have shared Mr Jethmalani's view that the issue needed to be resolved through dialogue. However, he stressed the need that sentiments and aspirations of the people of the state should be respected by the two parties, Mr Bhan said.
