Health minister admits 4 deaths during DDU strike
New Delhi, Apr 20 (UNI) Admitting that four people died and several children went through hell during the strike call by doctors at the Deendayal Upadhayay Hospital, Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shastri today termed the matter as ''really serious'' and lashed at the doctors for showing ''lack of concern''.
In reply to a question by Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly Jagdish Mukhi, Mr Shastri said, ''Several shortcomings like corruption and negligence have come to our notice and they would be addressed to.'' Four persons -- Poonam (22), Sunita (30), Roshan Lal (35) and Udaiveer (50) -- died during the strike period yesterday, in which not all senior doctors participated, he said adding that the OPD, OT, ICU and ICCU functioned normally.
Almost condoning the 'rampage' by the victim's relatives, which led to the strike by hospital staff, Dr Shastri said anger under such circumstances was possible but doctors should have shown better sense of concern.
Doctors and other staff of the DDU Hopsital yesterday went on a flash strike after relatives of a small girl, who died allegedly due to negligence of doctors, ransacked the hospital and 'fought' with the staff following her death.
