Harkat hitman arrested in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 20 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested a hitman of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM) after he injured his cousin at Sopore on Wednesday, a police spokesman said.

He said it was reported that militants shot at and wounded one Nazir Ahmad Pir at Bulgam, Sopore, about 55 km from here on the evening of Wednesday.

He said during the course of investigation in the incident, police got some clues that firing was heard in one of the room of the house where Nazir and his cousin Hilal Ahmed Pir, a resident of Boniyar were sitting.

Hilal had taken the injured Nazir to SMHS hospital after informing other family members that he was shot at and wounded by militants.

Later, Sopore police alerted Station House Officer (SHO) Karan Nagar who took into custody Hilal for questioning during which he admitted that his pistol went off when he was unloading it. The bullet hit Nazir, he told the police.

Hilal said that he was a hitman of HuM and had injured Shahnawaz, a shopkeeper at Arampora Sopore.

One pistol was recovered from his possession.

He said he and another militants were given orders to kill Shahnawaz.
