Gunman holes up in Tokyo after slaying one: Kyodo
Tokyo, Apr 20: A man shot and killed a person and then holed up in an apartment in a Tokyo suburb and was firing at police outside, in what police believe to be a dispute between rival gangs, Kyodo news agency said today.
Kyodo said local residents had been evacuated and riot police had been mobilised to the area, and television footage showed police and ambulances lined up on a street in the residential area of Machida, on the west side of the capital.
Earlier, the suspect fatally shot a man outside a convenience store and then fled to the apartment, Kyodo said. No others had been injured.
The incident follows Tuesday's fatal shooting of the mayor of the southern city of Nagasaki by a suspected gangster.
