G-4 meeting held in Brasilia, focus on reforms
New Delhi, Apr 20: Senior officials from G-4 countries includingIndia, Brazil, Germany and Japan, met in Brasilia and discussed thestrategy to be adopted for UN Security Council reforms, includingincreasing the permanent membership.
India was represented at the meeting by Mr K C Singh, AdditionalSecretary (International Organisations) in the External AffairsMinistry.
It was decided at the meeting yesterday that the four countrieswould be flexible in negotiations about the UNSC reform, officialsources said here today.
The officials said new permanent and non-permanent seats should be created for both developed and developing countries.
They have already expressed the desire to involve the African Union (AU) in the negotiations for UNSC reforms.
India and Brazil, had during the recent visit of Brazilian ForeignMinister Celso Amorim to India, said the G-4 would be consulting the AUalso.
Both countries had expressed commitment to G-4.
