Mumbai: BEST strike enters the second day
Mumbai, Apr 20: The second lifeline of Mumbaikars --the 'BEST buses' --remained off the road for second day today as employees of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) declined to resume their services, despite being served termination notices by the Management.
BEST Workers Union General Secretary Sharad Rao said that the employee will not go back to work till their demand of pay revision was accepted by the BEST management. ''We do not want any oral assurances, we wants everything in black and white,'' he added.
Due to the strike, officegoers, students and others faced inconvience as they were late in reaching their respective destination and being forced to depend on private vehicles, autorickshaws and taxis.
Over 35,000 BEST employees began a 72-hour strike from Wednesday midnight, seeking further hike in their wages and improvement in working conditions.
